What hardware do I need?
A PassTime GPS tracker per trailer — order them through the TrailerBase order portal and they arrive ready to pair by serial number in minutes, no wiring required. How often does the location update?
Every tracked trailer checks in automatically about every 30 minutes, around the clock — position, address, battery, and speed at check-in. When you need a fresh fix right now, hit "Locate now" on the device. Trackers sleeping in battery-saver mode will offer a one-click switch to Active tracking.
What happens if a tracker goes quiet?
Most "quiet" trackers are just asleep — battery-saver mode sleeps between check-ins to stretch battery life. The device list always shows the last report time and battery level, and low-battery alerts fire before a unit dies. A tracker parked indoors or in a garage may not get a GPS fix until it's back under open sky.
Can renters see the location?
No. GPS is operator-only by default. Renters know the trailer is tracked — it's in the rental contract — but never have access to live coordinates. Sharing a trailer's location with anyone (including law enforcement) is your call, not theirs.
How long does the battery last?
That's your call — remotely. PassTime trackers run on their own battery with selectable power modes: Endurance stretches battery life by sleeping between check-ins, Active tracks live at roughly half the runtime, and Recovery runs timed intensive tracking when you're hunting a trailer down. Battery level arrives with every check-in.
How do alerts reach me?
Alerts land in TrailerBase — the notification bell plus the GPS alerts list, where you review and resolve them. Geofence breaches, after-hours movement, tamper and tow events, speeding, and low battery are all covered, evaluated at every check-in.
