Pausing automations

Pause all automations during slow seasons or system issues, or pause individual ones with optional auto-resume dates.

Pausing automations

Sometimes you need everything to stop. A major website issue, an off-season stretch where you do not want nudge emails going out, a pricing migration where emails would be wrong — these are all normal. Pausing gives you a clean way to silence automations without deleting templates or losing your configuration.

Pause all automations at once

When you need a kill switch for everything:

  1. Go to Settings > Automations.
  2. At the top of the page, click the big Pause All button.
  3. A confirmation modal appears listing every active automation that will stop.
  4. Optional: enter an auto-resume date. If you set one, the pause lifts automatically at the chosen date and time.
  5. Click Confirm pause.

The second you confirm, no new automation emails are sent. In-flight scheduled emails (e.g., a pre-pickup reminder queued for tomorrow) are canceled for the duration of the pause.

Transactional emails are not affected. Receipts, refund confirmations, and direct manual emails continue sending because they are legally required or initiated explicitly by you.

Resuming

To resume manually, return to Settings > Automations and click Resume all. All templates that were active before the pause go back to active. Individually paused templates stay paused.

If you set an auto-resume date, automations resume at that moment without any action from you. You will get an email confirmation when the resume fires so you are not surprised.

Pause a single automation

You often do not need to stop everything — just one template.

  1. Go to Automations > Templates.
  2. Find the template you want to pause.
  3. Toggle the Active switch to off, or click Pause to set an auto-resume date.

A paused single template shows a Paused badge and the resume date (if any). All other automations keep running normally.

Common reasons to pause

Off-season

Operators with seasonal businesses (tourism, landscaping) often pause the Review request and Next-booking nudge during dead months. Reviews and nudges sent in January for summer customers feel weirdly timed.

System issues

Examples where pausing saves face:

  • Your phone system is down and the confirmation email tells renters to call. Pause until the line works again.
  • A pricing bug is producing wrong totals. Pause receipts until you have corrected and reissued.
  • You are mid-migration to a new domain and emails link to an address that is not live yet.

Testing

Pause the live templates while you A/B test a new version on a custom template. When you are happy with the test, promote it and resume.

Unexpected fleet shutdown

Weather, mechanical issue, or regulatory inspection takes your fleet offline for a few days. Pause the Post-return thank-you, Review request, and Next-booking nudge so you are not asking for reviews during a bad week.

What pausing does not do

  • It does not delete templates. Everything is preserved and comes back exactly as configured.
  • It does not cancel existing rentals. Only the outbound emails are paused.
  • It does not affect manual sends. If you manually email a renter from their profile, it sends normally.
  • It does not pause SMS separately — SMS uses the same active toggle as email, per template.

Auditing while paused

During a pause, the Performance dashboard keeps showing historical data. The Scheduled queue (under Automations > Queue) shows emails that would have sent during the pause window, grayed out, so you can see what was suppressed. This is useful when a renter calls and asks "did you send me the reminder?" — you can point to the queue and explain honestly.

Restarting after a long pause

If automations have been paused for a long time (weeks or months), before resuming:

  1. Review each template — did anything change (prices, address, phone) that needs an update?
  2. Preview with recent rental data to make sure merge tags still look right.
  3. Send yourself a test from each template.
  4. Resume gradually — flip the three most important templates first (Confirmation, Pre-pickup reminder, Review request) before re-enabling everything.

Pausing is meant to be boring and reversible. Use it whenever you are not sure, and turn it back on with confidence when you are ready.
