Uploading & Managing Trailer Photos

Great photos are the single highest-leverage thing you can do to increase bookings. TrailerBase gives you up to 10 photos per trailer, a drag-to-reorder interface, and alt-text fields that help you rank in search. Here is how to use them.

Photo limits and formats

Each trailer supports:

• Up to 10 photos
• Formats: PNG, JPG, or WebP
• Max file size: 5 MB each
• Recommended aspect ratio: 3:2 landscape (1800 x 1200 pixels is a great target)

What to shoot

A proven five-shot minimum for every trailer:

1. Bright daylight exterior - Front 3/4 angle, ground-level, whole trailer in frame.
2. Coupler close-up - Shows the hitch type (ball vs pintle vs gooseneck) so renters pick the right tow setup.
3. Bed or cargo interior - From the rear, showing the floor, walls, and tie-down points.
4. VIN plate or spec sticker - Small but helps professional renters verify specs.
5. Tires - A tread shot reassures renters that you maintain the unit.

Optional but valuable:

• Action shot with something loaded (a car on the car hauler, dirt in the dump)
• Ramp or rear gate deployed
• Interior of an enclosed trailer with lights on

Uploading

From the trailer form:

1. Scroll to the Photos section.
2. Drag files from your desktop directly into the upload zone, or click Browse to pick them.
3. Each photo uploads in parallel with a progress bar.
4. When all are green-checkmarked, click Save at the bottom of the form.

On mobile, tapping the upload zone opens your camera and photo library. You can shoot and upload in a single flow without leaving the browser.

Reordering and setting the hero

The first photo in the grid is the hero image. It is the one rendered on the public site card, on email quotes, and at the top of the reservation detail page.

To change the order:

1. Click and hold any photo thumbnail.
2. Drag it to a new position.
3. Release - the order saves automatically.

Alt text for SEO

Each photo has an Alt text field. This is the text screen readers announce and it is also what search engines use to understand your images.

Good alt text examples:

• "14ft Big Tex dump trailer, black, side view, loaded with gravel"
• "Enclosed cargo trailer rear doors open showing interior"
• "Gooseneck trailer coupler close-up 2 and 5/16 inch ball"

Bad alt text:

• "IMG_2394"
• "Trailer"
• "Picture of trailer"

Deleting and replacing

• Delete - Hover on a photo and click the trash icon. Deleted photos are unrecoverable after 30 days.
• Replace - Click the swap icon and pick a new file. The new photo inherits the old one's position and alt text.

Bulk upload across multiple trailers

If you are spinning up 20 trailers at once, use Trailers > Bulk Upload. You can drag a CSV with trailer specs and a zip file of named images (like "trailer-14dump-3_hero.jpg") and TrailerBase matches them automatically.

Photo performance tips

• Compress before upload. A 12 MP phone photo is often 8 MB - run it through a tool like ImageOptim to get under the 5 MB cap.
• Avoid watermarks. They reduce conversion and the public-site image overlay already has your branding.
• Keep hero images consistent: same angle, same distance across the fleet. Your public site grid will look instantly more professional.
