Know when something needs your attention
TrailerBase raises an alert when a check-in shows something wrong. Alerts land in the notification bell and the GPS alerts list on the GPS Tracking page, where you review and resolve them.
The alert types
- Geofence breach — a check-in puts the trailer outside its fence. The go-to theft signal.
- After-hours movement — the trailer is moving during hours it should not be. Catches unauthorized use without daytime noise.
- Tamper / tow — the tracker itself reports a tamper or tow event.
- Speeding — the trailer's speed at check-in exceeded the limit you set for that device.
- Low battery — the tracker reported under 20% battery. Charge or swap before it goes dark.
Where alerts come from
Alerts are evaluated at check-in cadence — each automatic report (about every 30 minutes) is tested against your rules. Tamper and tow events reported by the PassTime device itself are also picked up and raised as alerts.
Configuring alerts per device
Open a device on the GPS Tracking page:
- Alerts on/off — the master switch for that device
- Speed limit — the mph threshold for speeding alerts (leave blank to disable)
- Geofence — set up in the geofence editor (see the Geofencing article)
Reviewing and resolving
The Alerts drawer lists unresolved alerts first — each with the device, message, and time. Click Resolve when you have handled one. An open alert of the same type on the same device will not re-fire while it is unresolved, so a parked geofence breach does not keep spamming you — you get one alert per breach until you resolve it.
A good starter setup
- A geofence around the home lot on every trailer
- A speed limit on trailers that should never see highway speeds
- Alerts on everywhere — low battery and tamper/tow are covered automatically
