Managing Your Smart Locks

The Smart Locks page is mission control for every physical lock in your fleet. You can add new devices, assign them to trailers, rename them for clarity, and keep an eye on battery and signal health — all from one screen.

Getting to the Smart Locks Page

From the main sidebar, choose Fleet > Smart Locks. You will see a table of every lock you have paired, along with its current status, the trailer it is attached to, and the last time TrailerBase heard from it.

Adding a New Lock

Click Add Lock in the top right. The wizard walks you through three steps:

  1. Select a provider. Choose igloohome, Master Lock Vault, or August. The steps after this change slightly based on the provider, but the flow is the same.
  2. Pair the device. For Bluetooth padlocks, you will put the lock into pairing mode and hold your phone near it. For Wi-Fi devices, you will sign into the provider's account (if you have not already) and pick the device from the list. TrailerBase captures the device ID, firmware version, and initial battery reading.
  3. Name it. Give the lock a name you will recognize — "Coupler Lock 1", "Yard Padlock Blue", or whatever fits your system. You can rename it any time.

Assigning to a Trailer

Once paired, a lock is not useful until you attach it to a trailer. On the Smart Locks page, click any lock row and choose Assign to trailer. Pick a trailer from the dropdown and save. From that moment on, any reservation for that trailer can generate access codes that the lock will accept.

A trailer can have more than one lock (for example, a coupler lock and a door lock). Each lock operates independently but is controlled by the same reservation code by default — you can change that per lock if you want separate codes.

Battery and Signal Status

Every row on the Smart Locks page shows two health indicators:

  • Battery — A percentage and a color. Green is healthy, yellow is below 30%, red is below 10%. You will also get an email when any lock drops below 15%.
  • Signal — How strong the last connection was. For Bluetooth-only locks, this shows "Last sync" with a timestamp. For Wi-Fi locks, it shows a live strength bar.

Tap any row to see a history graph, last 10 unlock events, and firmware version.

Replacing or Retiring a Lock

If a lock is lost, broken, or upgraded, click Retire Lock on the device's detail panel. TrailerBase immediately invalidates every active code on that device, reassigns pending reservations to any backup lock on the same trailer, and marks the lock as retired in your audit log. You can always add the replacement as a brand-new device.
